Con la finale scudetto 2017 terminerà l’avventura di Brian Bell in Italia: dopo quattro straordinarie stagioni con la maglia della UnipolSai Briantea84, due titoli italiani, due Coppa Italia e due Supercoppa messi a curriculum, la stella statunitense ha deciso di intraprendere un nuovo percorso professionale in Europa. Una scelta di vita prima di tutto, oltre che una nuova sfida sportiva, per uno dei giocatori che nelle ultime stagioni ha costruito il suo spessore tecnico e ha attirato su di sé gli occhi di tutti gli amanti del basket in carrozzina, arrivando a mettere al collo la medaglia d’oro ai Giochi Paralimpici di Rio 2016.

Ad accogliere Bell nel suo roster sarà l’RSV Lahn Dill, squadra vice campione d’Europa, capace di aggiudicarsi due settimane fa il 13° titolo tedesco, dopo aver già vinto in questa stagione la Coppa di Germania. Insomma, uno dei club più blasonati a livello internazionale, dove negli anni sono transitati i migliori giocatori del panorama mondiale.

“Siamo molto onorati di avere avuto per così tanto tempo un giocatore della classe sportiva di Brian – ha affermato Alfredo Marson, presidente di Briantea84 -. Ricordo quando lo vidi la prima volta: erano i Mondiali Under 23 di Parigi, nel 2009. Mi colpì immediatamente quello che sapeva fare con la palla: già all’epoca, a soli 20 anni, era un fenomeno. Appena avuta l’occasione di portarlo a Cantù, nell’estate del 2013 dopo il primo scudetto della nuova era, non ce la siamo fatta scappare. Mi sembrava davvero un sogno. Lo abbiamo visto crescere, abbiamo fatto del nostro meglio per valorizzarlo come atleta e costruire insieme a lui il giocatore che è oggi, aiutati dalla sua umiltà e dalla sua grande voglia di lavorare duramente. È per questo che siamo molto orgogliosi che la sua destinazione sia una delle migliori squadre d’Europa: significa che il percorso fatto con noi è stato di reciproca crescita. A lui auguriamo grandi soddisfazioni, confidando di rivederci sui campi da gioco e di continuare a competere ad alti livelli”.

Brian Bell: “Sono davvero molto contento delle quattro stagioni che ho vissuto a Cantù con Briantea84. Ho avuto la possibilità di incontrare molti straordinari tifosi e giocatori. L’atmosfera alle partite casalinghe è incredibile e sarà qualcosa che non potrò mai dimenticare. Voglio ringraziare i fan per essere così partecipi delle nostre vittorie e sconfitte. Tutte le persone con cui ho fatto una foto o alle quali ho firmato un autografo hanno saputo lasciarmi qualcosa, con piccoli o grandi gesti. Il nostro presidente Alfredo ha fatto tutta la differenza nel periodo di permanenza qui. La sua passione e la purezza del suo coinvolgimento nelle gare è contagiosa e contribuisce a elevare il basket in Italia. Il lavoro che Alfredo sta facendo con Briantea84 è incredibile e gli auguro i maggiori successi per il futuro.

Ho avuto la possibilità di giocare con molti giocatori di livello mondiale, sia nella mia squadra che tra i miei avversari ed è grazie a loro se sono diventato un giocatore migliore. Mi mancherà di sicuro dividere il campo con Ian Sagar, perché lui è stato con me dall’inizio. Averlo come capitano e come amico ha fatto una grande differenza nel tempo che ho trascorso in Italia. Ho potuto vedere la crescita dei miei compagni di squadra e il fatto che ci siamo sempre aiutati nel plasmarci a vicenda è una bellissima sensazione.

I momenti migliori del mio tempo a Cantù sono legati probabilmente alla vittoria dello scudetto nel 2016 e nel 2014. Non vedo l’ora di difendere il nostro titolo italiano ancora una volta in finale, così come giocare in Coppa dei Campioni per il primo posto. Non ci sono dubbi che il mio tempo dentro e fuori dal campo in Italia mi ha resto una persona e un giocatore di basket migliore. Sono altrettanto impaziente di vivere le sfide che il futuro mi riserverà e so che rivedrò tutti i miei compagni di squadra in futuro, nelle partite ma anche nel tempo libero”.

With the 2017 finals the Italian adventure of Brian Bell in Italy will end : after four extraordinary seasons with the UnipolSai Briantea84 shirt, two Italian titles, two Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa, the star of the United States has decided to embark on a new professional career path  in Europe. A choice of life first as well as a new sporting challenge for one of the players who, in the last few seasons, has built up his technical skills and drawn to him the attention of all wheelchair basketball lovers ending up wearing a gold medal at the Paralympic Games at Rio 2016.

RSV Lahn Dill, the vice-European champion team who won the 13th German title two weeks ago after winning in the same season the German Cup, will welcome Bell into their roster. In short, one of the most internationally renowned clubs where the best players in the world have passed.

“We are very honored to have had so long an excellent class player such as Brian – said Alfredo Marson, president of Briantea84 -. I still remember when I first saw him at Under 23 World Championship in Paris in 2009. I was struck by what he could do with the ball: already at the age of just 20 he was a phenomenon. As soon as I had the opportunity to take him to Cantù in summer 2013, right after the first title of the new era, we did not let him get away. It really felt like a dream. We saw him grow up, we did our best to enhance him as an athlete and build him into the player he is today, helped by his humility and his great desire to work hard. That is why we are very proud that his next destination is one of the best European teams which means that the path with us has been of mutual growth. We all wish Brian great satisfaction, trusting to see us again on the playing courts and to continue competing at high levels”.

BRIAN BELL: “I have greatly enjoyed the 4 season that I have spent with Briantea84 Cantu.  I have gotten to know so many amazing fans and players.  The atmosphere at home games has been unbelievable and will be something I can never forget.  I want to thank the fans for being so supportive in our victories and defeats.  Every fan who I have taken a photo with or signed an autograph for has made an impact on me in big and small ways.

Our president Alfredo has made all the difference with my time here. His passion and pure enjoyment of the game is infectious and elevates basketball in Italy. The work that Alfredo is doing with Briantea84 is amazing to see and I wish him nothing but success for the future.

There have been so many world class players that I have gotten to play with and against and it is thanks to them that I have become a better basketball player. I am going to miss playing with Ian Sagar as he has been with me from the beginning. Having Sagar as a captain and as a friend has made a huge difference for me in my time in Italy.  I have gotten to see the growth of my teammates in my time here and knowing that we helped shape each other into better players is a great feeling.

The highlights of my time with Cantu would be the championships that we won as a team in 2016 and 2014. I am looking forward to defending our championship title as a team one final time, as well as playing in Champions Cup for first place. There is no doubt that my time on and off the court in Italy has made me a better basketball player and person.  I am looking forward to the challenges that the future holds and I know that I will see all of my teammates in the future on and off the court”.
